During October, moderately warm and, in most areas, dry weather was maintained in the wine-growing zone of Ukraine. The average monthly air temperature ranged from 9⁰С to 11⁰С, and the maximum temperatures rose to 20–22⁰С. The minimum temperatures in the air decreased to -1 ..- 3⁰С, except for Odesa, where this indicator was + 5⁰С. According to observations at the meteorological post at the NSC “IViV them. V.Ye. Tairov “sum of air temperatures, consistently higher than +10⁰С, on October 23 was 3340⁰С, which is 60⁰С above the average long-term values. The amount of precipitation in October was: in Uzhhorod, Kherson, Zaporizhia 3-5 mm, in Odessa – 25 mm, in Zaporizhia – 39 mm. (https://rp5.ua/).
Grape harvesting has been completed in the vineyards of the south of Ukraine. A recent survey of vineyards showed that the maturation of annual shoots this year in most cases is unsatisfactory, in areas severely affected by disease, the degree of maturation does not exceed 40%, which threatens to damage plants with winter frosts.
It should be noted that on fruit-bearing plantations before pruning it is necessary to determine the degree of maturation of annual growth. In areas with low maturation of shoots (less than 50%) pruning should be carried out last in the spring.
In order to provide better conditions for the accumulation of moisture in the autumn-winter period, on fruit-bearing vineyards and 2–4-year-old plantations it is necessary to carry out chiseling between rows to a depth of 25–30 cm, in the zone of technological track by 15–20 cm.
Soil cover of young bushes should be carried out only after the fall of leaves, and be sure to close the grafting site for 1-2 nodes of annual shoot growth. This is especially true of vineyards damaged by mildew, where hilling must be completed before the beginning of winter.
After harvesting, the care of the grapes does not end, it is necessary to properly prepare the grapes for the winter and provide them with protection from diseases and pests. The final autumn treatment, by which the bushes are disinfected from the wintering infectious stock of diseases and pests that have accumulated during the summer season, is necessary for the grapes. If the plants were not treated in October, it will not be too late to carry them out in November.
In the presence of signs of diseases and pests spraying on the leaf is carried out shortly after harvest, using contact drugs of complex action (Anthracol (1.5 kg / ha), Horus (0.7 kg / ha), Folpan (2.0 kg / ha) ), Merpan (2.0 kg / ha), Delan (0.5–1.0 kg / ha), Poliram (1.2 kg / ha), etc.), then repeated after leaf fall, using mainly drugs on copper-based, or iron sulphate, which destroy the wintering stages of pests and diseases and saturate plants with trace elements (Cu, Fe).
The last treatment is eradicating, the drugs are used in high concentrations (3-5%), so you need to wait until all the leaves fall off naturally and carry out treatment after November, in closed buds, otherwise they can get burned and die.
The treatment should be carried out very carefully so that the solution is distributed in a thin layer, does not flow (approximately 1-2 liters per bush) and it is desirable to additionally treat the adjacent soil in the stem circle (spending 2-3 liters/m2), which also stores winter stock pathogens and pests.
